  1. Indian National Committee on Surface Water (INCSW)

The Indian National Committee on Surface Water (INCSW) is an apex body to the R&D activities in Surface Water in general and R&D programme of MoWR in particular and to promote and coordinate effective participation of India in the international programmes related to Surface Water and to act as national committee for such international bodies where required. INCSW was constituted by merging functions/works of 4 earlier national committees namely INCID, INCOH, INCH and INC-GECM) Vide letter no. 7/1/2012-WP&P-C/1347-91, dated 21.06.2012.

INCSW is headed by Chairman, CWC and Chief Engineer, EMO, CWC is Member Secretary and there are 12 members representing MoWR/CWC, CSMRS, CWPRS, NIH, DST/DSIR/CSIR, Min.ofAgr., WALMIs, IIT, NGOs etc. INCSW’s main objective is to promote research work in the field of Water Resources Engineering (Surface Water aspect) by providing platform to academicians/experts in the Universities, IITs, recognised R&D laboratories, Water Resources/ Irrigation departments of the Central and State Governments and NGOs under R&D Programme of Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR). INCSW acts as an Indian arm of ICID.

Presently, there are total 91 R&D Schemes in hand (i.e. on different stages of completion/premature closing & on-goings). The details are as under:-

  1. Schemes Completed but DFR and OH release pending – 66 Nos.
  2. Schemes which could be completed by releasing fund – 21 Nos.
  3. Schemes which are Non-responsive and can be withdrawn – 04 Nos.

What's New in CWC

The total water available in live storage of 91 reservoirs in the country being monitored by CWC was 66.26 BCM as on 14.02.2019.This is 41% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs and 96% of storage of average of last ten years.The overall storage position is more than the corresponding period of last year in the country as a whole but is less than the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period.

Central Water Commission in collaboration with Odisha Water Resources Department and the World Bank successfully organised International Dam Safety Conference - 2019 during 13-14 February 2019 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It was conculded by holding a press conference on 15 Feb 2019 in the presence of Secretary, MoWR, RD & GR and Chairman, Central Water Commission among other senior officers / dignitaries from the fraternity.

39th Meeting of the National Committee on Dam Safety (NCDS) under Chairmanship of Chairman, CWC being held at Bhubaneswar on 11 February 2019.

Chairman, Central Water Commission handed over Emergency Action Plan document of Hirakud Dam to Principal Secretary, Odisha Water Resources Department on January 10 , 2019 at Rajiv Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. The EAP has been prepared under DRIP to act as model document for other Dam owners.
